Act Now: Join CMPAC in Calling for a Two-Way Arms Embargo on Israel

Dear CMPAC Subscribers,

As part of our ongoing efforts to advocate for justice and human rights, we are reaching out to you on a matter of critical importance.

Today, on August 20th, CMPAC issued a statement demanding that the Canadian government implement a full arms embargo on Israel. In support of this urgent call, we are joining the #ArmsEmbargoNow Day of Action, advocating for an immediate and comprehensive two-way arms embargo on Israel. The situation in Gaza has reached a dire state, with over 40,000 civilian casualties and widespread destruction of essential infrastructure. Canada must respond with principled and decisive action.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) recently issued an Advisory Opinion declaring Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories illegal under international law. This ruling provides a clear legal foundation for Canada to reassess its policies and take concrete steps to align with its international obligations.

However, Canada continues to trade arms with Israel, contributing to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. CMPAC is urgently calling on the Canadian government to:

  • Immediately Suspend All Arms Trade with Israel to prevent further violence and uphold Canada’s commitment to international law.

  • Revoke Existing Permits for the export of Canadian-made weapons and components to Israel.

  • Increase Transparency around the export of weapons and components, particularly those re-exported to Israel via the United States.
